Disbeliefnet

Of course you already know Bill Maher’s new movie Religulous is coming out later this year.

Check out the studio-created website for the film. It’s surprisingly well done! It’s called Disbeliefnet.com (a parody of Beliefnet.com).

It has all sorts of goodies.

They talk about the big important religions:

The advertisements all look fake — but they are entirely real. The links go straight back to the ridiculous religious websites from which they came.

You can also send ecards:

And if that’s not enough, just check out the huge collection of real links to various religious websites.

Just in case you haven’t seen the trailer for the movie:

(Thanks to Siamang for the links!)

In the past some have asked why I am so blunt. I am the way I am in part because of the guy at the 57 second mark in the trailer. I don’t have a “problem” you can do anything about.

“Isn’t that something? Koldamoshoko Doma Dada!”

It’s an interesting site. It’s kind of Landover Baptist with the scary part that when you see something wacky and click on it, it goes to a real thing.

It’s a big site with lotsa links. I was kind of surprised that I hadn’t seen anyone in the atheist blogosphere talking about it. It must be new.

TX, something tells me there are a lot of guys like that in Texas.

Siamang, and a lot that aren’t…luckily.

I’m still for kicking Texas out of the Union–for the good of the country. Sell ‘em back to Mexico.

Sell? Give Texas back and all I ask for is 30 days notice…seriously.

TX, don’t be rash now. Wouldn’t it be poetic justice for us to get something for Texas after everything that it’s cost us? Maybe we could do one of those Enron type deals and multiply our profits.

  10. avatar Metro Says:

Hell, Tx, Darryl–you’re thinking waaay too small.

See if you can get a KBR-type no-bid contract from the Department of Defense to handle the handover. You could make a millionaire out every person still living in the US afterward.

I hope no one will be offended by me saying this, but though the trailer looks funny and I’ll probably see the movie, I hate the title “Religulous”. The title alone works against it. What a maladroit term. Trying to force a portmanteau of “religious” and “ridiculous” just doesn’t work. Maybe it’s intentional, but the word sounds just as garbled as the glossolalic nonsense coming from that preacher. “Hey, man, you heard of this new movie called Religulumububurble…? Hallelujah!”

Anyways, that completes my rant against the title. Hopefully it’ll be a good movie. However, Bill Maher’s woo-woo anti-science when it comes to medicine makes me fear he might throw a bunch of nonsense into the movie. Let’s just hope he doesn’t digress into medicine and sticks to doing what he knows how to do–mocking people’s ridiculous behavior.

I’m not a big fan of Maher, but the movie seems pretty good. I hope they play it in Canada.

I notice that Larry Charles is at the directing helm. He was responsible for some of the best Seinfeld episodes, including “The Library,” “The Subway,” “The Trip” and “The Bris.”

You know, we could let them have Alabama and Mississippi, too. To, you know, sweeten the deal.
