New Banner

There’s a new, cleaner looking banner at the top of the page.

I absolutely love it. The ambigram was created by Tiffany Harvey (who does beautiful work and will one day design my tattoo). She is awesome and you should all hire her for all your designing purposes.

The banner was then put together by reader Pat Thompson.

For those who say it’s not readable, that’s kind of the point. It forces you to look at it carefully. But the subtitle is there just in case :)

Mi neck hurts after rotating my head to read it. That’s a cool banner. Is it going to be permanent?

Absolutely love it! Everything should be in ambigrams. Great metaphor about how everyone should look at everything a little bit closer.

    For the time being, yep!

…is it bad that the very first thought that popped into my head when I saw the ambigram was Dan Brown’s Angels and Demons?

Well, to be fair, I have been watching the movie several times in a row with family over the past week/weekend.

    Um, I see Frieendly.
There seems to be an extra letter to allow the ambigram to work.

Hehehe, looks so religious and mystical.

  14. avatar Tony Says:

Looks like a twist on a Dan Brown book “Angels & Atheists.”

    I like it.

It is growing on me. The more times I see it, the more I like it. I also like your new picture.

  16. avatar Carlie Says:

With such a pretty fancy typeface, the picture of you should be one from that wedding dance you posted awhile back. :)

  17. avatar Evan Says:

Hmmm, a little jarring having been so used to the previous banner. But with the near Tamil look I think it actually suits you. :D

  18. avatar PrimeNumbers Says:

    And you’re in focus Hemant!

I like the idea that it should make you look carefully at things, but do you mean it should be obvious from the banner?

I mean, I get it now, but if it has to be pointed out and explained it’s not communicating clearly.

Of course, if it’s more of a subtle artsy/philosophical point then it’s a different story. Myself, I wouldn’t get it unless you adopted the motto “Hey! You really should take a closer look on things, you know!” and stuck it in there though. :-)

Love it, ambigram 4 teh w1n.

    That is impressive!

    Impressive. I like it.

I still don’t care for the ambigram as a banner (for reasons I gave earlier), but I’m obviously outvoted. (And I have to admit that an ambigram would be a really cool aspect to have in a tattoo.) Besides, Hemant, it’s your blog — so by all means, have it adorned however you like.

Oh, I love it! Very nice!

  25. avatar MH Says:

I don’t care for the ambigram either, but my eyesight isn’t that great so when I look at it I keep thinking its me.

  26. avatar Dan Covill Says:

Nope. I read all the rave reviews, and looked again, and it still sucks. Just what is it you’re trying to accomplish with it, anyway?

  27. avatar BathTub Says:

No sorry, it’s one of the less clear ambigrams I have seen. Not really great for a title banner.

  28. avatar Vas Says:

    No No No
I do not like it at all, particularly for a web site. This is bad design, very self conscious, tortured, and overworked, and it accomplishes nothing. Maybe if taken as a tattoo design, a notorious refuge for bad design and poor quality artists, it could pass but as a graphic exercise it fails. Being barely legible does not force a viewer to look more carefully, in fact the more likely result is to make them click away. But hey it’s your site so do what you like. however the notion that this is “cleaner” is way off base.

  29. avatar Laura Says:

I like it. I dont think it is too unclear as a banner because you have it written out underneath in plain font. It makes it look like a cool design and then you understand later what it is.

I think it’s great. I like it better than the last one.
