It features Christopher Hitchens, author of God is Not Great, and evangelical theologian Doug Wilson.
On Thursday, November 19th, I will be co-sponsoring a screening of that movie along with The Painted Door, a Chicago church. Following the screening will be a discussion about the movie featuring myself and Chad Meister, editor of of the forthcoming God is Great, God is Good, a refutation of Hitchens’ book.
It’s not a debate. Just a discussion of ideas discussed in the movie.
Tickets cost $5 (you pay when you get there), but you must RSVP here so we can add you to the list.

Where: Merit School of Music’s Gottlieb Hall Street, 38 S Peoria St., Chicago, IL 60607
When: Thursday, November 19th, 7:00 – 9:30 p.m.
There better be some atheist support at this event, that’s all I’m saying 
But invite your religious friends, too. It’ll be an interesting discussion for everybody. I’m looking forward to it.

I’ve seen a bit of what Doug Wilson has said. The guy has a screw loose, he seems to revel in how illogical his positions are. Every time I’ve seen him argue with Hitchens he is torn a new one. Sad, sad, sad.
Can someone who sees an early screening of this movie, please report back and let us know whether Hitchens calls out Wilson on his absurd positions on policy, such as being pro-slavery, and using Biblical law (stoning, burning to death, etc.) to usurp existing US law?
My guess is no since the two of them are buddies engaging in a bit of a charade/two-step, and this movie is being framed/sold as two respectable POVs, clashing with each other, rather than what it should be — modern thinking vs. dementia. But I’d be happy to be surprised.
I expect a full report, Hemant, of the discussion after the screening. I wish I could be there.

It’s good that some people are concerned about that worrisome possibility, but there is an alternative: Hitchens deliberately dredged up the most abhorrent representative of Christianity he could find. It would not much surprise me to see Hitchens use Doug Wilson’s pro-slavery position as a stick to beat Christians with. I too, would like to know, if Hitchens addresses Wilson’s pro-slavery position, and if so, how.
It may be “just a discussion,” but don’t go too easy on Meister!

I believe that’s also the same day Ray Comfort’s version of Darwin’s Origin is going out to university campuses, right??
I wonder if they’ll show up anywhere in Chicago? If so, one could grab up a copy or two, then catch the movie screening – double the fun!
