Exorcised Gay Teen Speaks to Tyra Banks

Remember this video?

That was Manifested Glory Ministries (in Bridgeport, CT) trying to rid a teenager of The Gay. The video made the rounds several months ago.

Well, the 16-year-old teenager that is the subject of that video is going public about it. “Jeffrey” appeared on The Tyra Banks Show to talk about what you saw in that video. He says he “is no longer gay,” and that the exorcism worked.

Jeffrey also defends Pastor Patricia McKinney. Somehow, Jeffrey underwent an exorcism and lost his mind in the process.

According to Rod 2.0:

The boy appears unsure of himself and coached. He is also concealing his identity and wearing a “beard”. (It probably won’t be the last time, either.) Why did the parents allow the minor to appear on national television? The family is said to be “very happy” with his “healing.” Sources told Rod 2.0 the teen left the church and found an LGBT “inclusive and affirming” ministry, only to return to Manifested Glory.

The pastor makes an appearance and she’s just as clueless now as she was before. Worst personal PR ever.

Highlight of the video for me comes at the 7:30 mark. (21:12 isn’t too bad, either.) I don’t say this often… but go Tyra! That was a discussion worth watching.

(Thanks to grazatt for the link!)

This sounds nasty, but anything a 16-year-old says about the big issues of life I don’t find very useful. How he’s doing in, say, five years will tell the tale.

  4. avatar Buffy Says:

Another gay man living a simulated heterosexual lifestyle to please bigots. What a waste.

  5. avatar Angie Says:

This is heartbreaking. I hope that this young man can break the stranglehold of his religious upbringing and come to accept himself. Mikespeir made a good point — he might come around in five years when his sense of self is more solid.

I never thought I would ever write this, but I think Tyra handled that interview amazingly well.

That is sick. I’m glad Tyra had a head on her shoulders. Too bad there aren’t more open-minded people in the world.

That was gay bashing plain and simple and they should be prosecuted for it. I know they’ll hide behind religious freedom but aren’t there limits? You can’t hide behind it for human sacrifice or bigamy so how can you hide behind it for beating up a kid?

They broke his spirit and think that’s a good thing. It truly was sad and heartbreaking. I can only hope he recovers mentally as well as physically and grow strong like the young man who spoke after them.

And how is that a black congregation is tolerating some jerk that calls himself overseer? That just flabbergasts me. You’d think they’d set someone calling himself their overseer straight in short order.

The most telling moment was when the prophet admitted she’s lesbian. Explains too why that husband of hers was so threatened by that beautiful (inside and out) woman speaking the truth. Maybe he’s mad he got the ugly (inside and out) one.

Cudos to Tyra for this show!

Those ain’t his glasses, either. Banks is just taking advantage of the African-American community’s general homophobia. How sad that a traditionally victimized segment of society should be so bigoted against a similarly hated group. When this kid eventually accepts his orientation, this video is likely to haunt him.

    Indeed.

I was going to say: Remember how when you were a teenager you never got laid anyway? I’m sure that makes it pretty darn easy to make broad sweeping claims about your sex life for the next seven decades.

And no, I’m not discounting the fact that orientation is about love rather than sex, but I’m sure this kid and his church are.

I think homosexuality and xianity are incompatible period. Gay xtians are a self hating bunch if you ask me. I mean the bible is pretty clear, it’s an abomination just like shrimp cocktail or seagull meat. Face “facts” “god” told you not to be gay, and not to eat an octopus, and not to cut the edges of your beard or the hair on the side of your head, and not to plant two kinds of seeds in a field or wear blended fabrics. And of special note to our friend the “profit” from the video… People who have flat noses shall not go to the alter of god!(Leviticus 21:17-18) Check out the Tyra video at 9:24 and it clearly shows profit Mckinney is a bit lacking in the schnozola department and yet she stands at the alter of god, this does not bode well for her. Also claiming to be a profit of god is blasphemy, an UNFORGIVABLE sin, period.
Personally I think the above rules are nonsense but if them’s the rules, then them’s the rules and the whole bloody lot of ‘em are screwed and they will know his name is the Lord when he lays his vengeance on them.
Why should we be friendly to these folks? Abusers of children should be given a pass so we can all just get along? I’ve been reading Hemant’s blog for quite some time and it’s chock full ‘o’ good stuff but I still can’t help but wonder why the “friendly” bit. Many of these folks describe themselves as warriors, (and I do mean many not just a few NOTW types) and we are their sworn enemies (who they love). someone explain to me why they think we should be friendly, I’m just not getting it.

No one’s saying we should be friendly to these freaks. I have no problem being kind to people are are kind in return. Not all Christians are like these people.

I find it interesting that the self proclaimed ‘Prophet’ values the power she has made for herself. SHE is the one in charge. The looks she was giving her husband, she very clearly has built her world and if/when it comes crashing down, you can bet the blame will go to him first then to everyone else before it goes to her.
Believe in god or not. According to the bible they are so fond of using, she is indeed a false prophet. It is almost amazing to me how such people can prosper (to whatever degree).

  15. avatar Andrew S. Says:

    So many things here.

    1) The guy. “So, do you like women?” “uhh…yeah.” Riiiight. or how about, “So, you don’t have desires for men?” “I still have those TEMPTATIONS, but I don’t have the evil spirit.”

oh. Sorry, guy, but that’s gay!

    2) The “prophet.” “I don’t hang out with my friends. I don’t hang out with drunkards. I don’t have out with gays.”

Uh…what would Jesus do (protip: you should know bettere than me!)? Jesus WOULD hang out with drunkards, sinners, publicans, etc.,

  16. avatar boutmoneyy Says:

wow this is really sad and stupid
as they say all sins are equal and destroying someones temple and turning them into someone other than themselves should be a sin because he is who he wants to be and NO it isnt easy “NOT”to be gay because the temptations turn into desires and the desires turns to doing stuff at night and he would probably get older and become a child molester not saying that he is but all desires change AND he will try to come out when he is older but not comfortable because he doesnt wanna dissapoint his “profets”

Oh so we can pick and choose who we are friendly to… got it, I’ll make a note. I’m glad I got that cleared up, it’s been bugging me.
    Thanks,

Not too bad? It’s one of Rush’s best albums. Oh, you were talking about the video. Never mind.

  20. avatar Aj Says:

Did anyone notice the lesbian faithhead’s comment about people stealing or murdering if they already believe they’re going to hell for being gay? If anything that kind of moronic religious nonsense is more fucked up than exorcising the gay out of someone. If these people believe that the fear of hell is only stopping people from murdering one another then what do they think of atheists and others that don’t believe in hell?

It’s not surprising that the crazy Christians believe that thinking “bad” thoughts can send you to hell. The Bible makes it clear that thinking is on the table when it comes to crime. You shall have no other gods but me, you shall not covet the wives, ox, slaves, fields, or ass of your neighbour. Even if it’s a real nice ass, just begging to be ridden, ploughing away in the fields, such a tease.

  21. avatar So what did the gay exorcism even do? « Irresistible (Dis)Grace Says:

[...] and the “patient” Jeffrey both insist)…if you missed it, you can see it at Friendly Atheist (or directly at Youtube) along with a 40 minute interview with the “Prophet,” [...]
