She was the woman running for mayor of Tulsa, Oklahoma on a platform of getting the Tulsa Zoo to include an exhibit on Creationism. And she wanted to do away with any sort of church/state separation…
She had her Republican primary the other day… and earned a whopping 10% of the vote. The two candidates who beat her got 54% and 32% of the votes, respectively.
So, in other words, even Oklahoma Republicans didn’t want a Christian fundamentalist in charge.
There’s hope for Oklahoma yet!
Good news: She only received 10% of the vote.
Bad News: She received 10% of the vote.
Which one bothers you more?
That is assuming none of the primary winners fall into that camp.

Serious question: Is there any passage of the Bible itself that says it is the literal word of God? Or are these fundies too wrapped up to notice it doesn’t?
Hemant, you might want to remove the ‘z’ in ‘tulsaz’ from your first link.
They didn’t vote for her because she is too liberal.
@Paul: Yes. I don’t have quotations on hand, but grab a Gideon Bible, and look up “itself” in the front section “What the Bible says about…”
Of course, as a massively contradictory book, there are also several places where it says that it isn’t the literal word of god, but those verses don’t get quoted as often.
@Paul: the nearest there is to that AFAIK is 2 Timothy 3:16: “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness”. I’ve been given that by fundies a couple of times, so I assume there is nothing more convincing.
To anyone other than a fundie, that says pretty clearly that the author of Timothy didn’t think that scripture is the literal word of God, only that it was inspired. And “scripture” in this case was almost certainly only the Old Testament; the New Testament wasn’t considered scripture until later.
I can’t find the bit on her website where she says that it isn’t God’s will for her to be mayor. Strange, that.

Yes, even that number is high, but remember these are only Republican primary voters. A much smaller subset than the general public.
The others may be religious and conservatively so, but that wasn’t their platform. Falling made her religion the key issue. The only issue, really.

Anna Falling Fails Mayor Election, Thank God
Please don’t consider this spam. This is a link to my blog where I posted an article about Anna Falling. I live in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Thanks for mentioning issues related to Tulsa, though.
On the BA thread on this (followed the link to get here) it is pointed out that its’ actually more like 1.2 % of all voters.
So not only do most Oaklahomans reject her, even most Republicans do too. Not that I usually have many kind words for Republicans but this time even they’ve got this right. Perhaps they’re even learning & adapting themselves. Good to hear.
I also live in Tulsa. That 10% isn’t just 10%, it’s 10% of those who showed up on a day when only about 15% of registered voters turned out. In an area of around 500,000 people we’re talking maybe a couple of thousand people supporting her.
There are a lot of crazies here, sure, but they are definitely not the majority.
Now, had Ms. Falling run on a platform of “More War Less Health Care” she would have had a solid shot at the Red nomination. ‘Cause we gots lots of evangelicals, and evangelicals love nothing more than letting the poor suffer and a good, rapture-bringin’ war.

But… if she were an atheist running on a “keep gods out of government” platform, she’d probably have received less than 0.01% of the vote from both Democrats and Republicans.
