The award goes to “the person who has made the year’s most outstanding contribution to talking unadulterated (and often destructive) nonsense about matters of religion.”

Talking unadulterated and often destructive nonsense on matters of religion? That seems to point squarely at God himself, at least judging by his books.
Admittedly, there’s some allegation that those were ghostwritten…

I second Michelle Bachman.
I didn’t check the link yet, but the first name I thought of was Oklahoma’s Sally Kern whose “Proclamation for Morality” was the most egregious violation of church/state separation I’ve seen in 2009.
Cheney and Bernanke are too obvious. Senator Blagojevich is too easy. Michelle Bachman is too obscure.

Poor Ann Coulter. Can seem to win at anything. Oh well, I guess when your career potential is limited to either giving two-bit BJ’s or rabble rousing, you’ve gotta cut your losses.
I’m torn between Bill Donohue and Michelle Bachman. They both seem so incredibly bigoted and evil, and yet some people take them seriously.
Charlie Crist would be in the running just for being a religious nut governor, but his recent claims are just so over the top as to seem more ridiculous than harmful.
Ann Coulter no doubt has acid for blood, but she’s so beyond realism that she has become a sort of evil clown. Hey, maybe they can put her in a new batman movie…

For those suggesting Laurie Higgins, I don’t think she can carry a full-year award with her petty spiteful attacks (and her subsequent blustering denials). If it was Bad Faith Award of the Month, I’d go along with her nomination.
