NO GODS License Plate in Indiana is Approved!

A couple weeks ago, I posted about Jason from Indiana. His request for a license plate reading NO GODS was rejected by the Bureau of Motor Vehicles.

There’s good news to report! Jason wrote this in an email:

I got a letter on Friday stating that my initially rejected personalized license plate of “NO GODS” has now been approved…

That may also be BMV code for “We don’t want to get sued.”

Considering several websites mentioned this story, the ACLU was about the get involved, and even CNN was considering doing a story, this seems like an obvious (but welcome) conclusion.

I can’t wait to see the picture of the new plate :)

I guess this means that “NO GOD” is also available for someone in Indiana. Go for it.

I wonder if Illinois has “GTFO GOD” up for grabs…

Thanks to Hemant and all of the supportive commenters here at The Friendly Atheist. I’m sure that this wouldn’t have been resolved so quickly without the story gaining visibility like it did.

The worst I’ve ever gotten from my “Proud To Be An Atheist” bumper sticker is some middle fingers and a really funny woman yelling angrily “see you in hell!” so I’m not expecting much worse than that. We’ll see. It’ll be interesting.

I won’t be getting the plate until the 2010 registration year, so once I get it in February, I’ll be sure to post a picture.

He should get that on the license plate that says “In God We Trust”. It would really mess with peoples minds there.
