Its odd, nothing divides atheists like the topic of guns and the 2nd amendment.

As rational thinkers, we should be able to come to some sort of consensus. Instead we end up talking past each other. Just like talking to the faithful....

It's common knowledge that unloaded guns eat children. It's irresponsible to bring children to such a service. Many people make the mistake of believing that guns are nothing more than inert, morally-neutral steel tubes.

The whole thing is very tongue-in-cheek and done deliberately to elicit this kind of panty-twisted oh-gawd-think-of-the-children reaction.

Just out of curiosity, how many of you that are so frightened of guns have ever witnessed a negligent discharge? Anybody? I bet not. It's fairly rare, and if a person is carrying in a proper holster, the chances are great that it won't go off. I've been in police stations and gun stores, oooooh, such scary places because there are guns in them, and I've never seen one go off when it wasn't supposed to. I've seen countless police officers eating in restaurants with, oh my god!!!!, guns in their holsters, and they haven't gone off. Every time I've been in an airport, there's been gun-toting cops all over the place, and their guns manage not to fire either.

Concealed carry permits are legal in most states, if people are carrying correctly you most likely aren't even aware they are all around you all the time. Seriously, get over your paranoia.

Guns are not dangerous when handled correctly, and most concealed carry permit holders are very conscientious of gun safety and all the laws because we all know you anti-gun nuts will jump at any incident as a reason to take away our guns.

According to the link, it wasn't actually a worship service.

Or how many decided to stay home because everyone else was bringing guns to church. That’s the boat I would have been in.

Well, Christians are often irrational, but I doubt that many people would fear unloaded guns enough to stay away for only that reason.

And forgive us our misfires

At first read, I thought that said "Forgive us our mistresses." But that would be the prayer for Gov Sanford of SC, I s'pose.

South Carolina has one of those "still on the books" laws that require people to bring a gun to church. Made for shorter sermons I guess.

I have to chuckle about the fear of GUNS!!! I'm more worried about who carries them the weapon itself.

...and Saint Attila raised the hand grenade up on high, saying, "O Lord, bless this Thy hand grenade that with it Thou mayest blow Thine enemies to tiny bits, in Thy mercy."

(Obligatory Monty Python reference)

By the way, what's the fun in bringing unloaded guns to Church? Bring'em loaded and cocked!
