South Park or Christopher Hitchens?

If my students received the score I just got on this quiz on one of their math exams, I’d be calling their parents.

Hopefully, you’ll score higher.

One example:

If Jesus could heal a blind person he happened to meet, then why not heal blindness?

Who said it?

A character from South Park or Christopher Hitchens?

just took the quiz, got 18 of 25 not bad considering i never watch south park and never heard of the other guy.

  2. avatar Iason Ouabache Says:

Woo! I got 21 out of 25 which is really surpising since I’ve never read any Hitchens and stopped watching South Park a couple of years ago.

  3. avatar The Science Pundit Says:

    17/25

    Better than I expected.

  5. avatar Josh Says:

Woo! 20/25! (I guess being a former south park viewer helps on that quiz)

19/25. I have not read Hitchen’s books nor watched South Park in years. But I have seen Richard Dawkins speak twice in the past 18 hours.

  8. avatar Tim Van Haitsma Says:

21/25, you are grading on the curve, right?

    Please don’t call my parents.

  9. avatar Michael Russell Says:

Only 12 out of 25. I wasn’t giving South Park enough credit and I was immediately launching the raunchy items over to South Park.

  10. avatar skinman Says:

    19 of 25

That John Edwards episode just kills me.

  11. avatar Teleprompter Says:

    Ick. 15 out of 25.

On the other hand, I have only seen Hitchens on TV, and I’ve seen no more than two or three South Park episodes.

21/25 – not bad considering I haven’t watched South Park more than 15-20 times. But I have read almost all of Hitchens’ work.

  14. avatar Spook Says:

    21/25

Not too bad, I suppose, as I don’t know Hitchens’ work that well. However, the way things are written is usually a giveaway.

  15. avatar Ryan Says:

I got 16/25, and almost all of my mistakes were thanks to second-guessing myself because of vulgarity. Dammit.

  16. avatar Evinfuilt Says:

That John Edwards episode just kills me.

Just seeing that episode will allow someone to get at least half right, combine it with their fun with the Super Adventure Fun Club and you should be able to break 20.

My mistake was not giving Hitchens enough credit on intelligent thought.

  17. avatar Greta Christina Says:

I got 19 of 25, a score the test graded as “good.” But I was quite startled at how hard it was. Much of the time I was just guessing. Very clever.

  18. avatar Greta Christina Says:

Actually, you know what this reminds me of? The old Porn Star or My Little Pony? quiz from Brunching Shuttlecocks. On which I got an embarassing 2 out of 12.

Also in this vein from Brunching Shuttlecocks: Christian metal band or Star Trek TNG episode?

  19. avatar Reed Braden Says:

23/25 Woo! I’m a South Park junkie and I stalk Christopher Hitchens, so I’m a bit upset that I missed two.

  20. avatar silentalias Says:

17/25. I’ve only seen about a season of South Park, and am about to find out just who Hitchens is o.O

  21. avatar Eric Z Says:

22/25 and I haven’t even watched an episode of south park for three-and-a-half seasons! I’m still disappointed in me though…

  22. avatar Zadius Says:

18/25. Not too bad given that I don’t watch South Park.

  23. avatar ATL-Apostate Says:

    19/25
disappointing considering I’m a big fan of both.

  24. avatar Einmaliger Says:

I’m disappointed that so few people here watch South Park regularly. Trey and Parker have a great talent in showing current issues from their very own point of view.

I got 20 out of 25, though I mostly see the translated German episodes of South Park and read the German translation of Hitchen’s “God is not great”. But it’s a giveaway that Hitchen uses longer words and statements that sound just a bit more intellectual.

  25. avatar Mikko Says:

    18/25

    i don’t watch south park

  26. avatar MathMike Says:

    20/25

Not bad for only having a “Cliff Notes” depth of knowledge.
I haven’t watched South Park since season 3.
I haven’t been able to make it through a Hitchens book yet.

  27. avatar Claudia Says:

Wow, I suck, 12 out of 25. I very much underestimated the thoughtfulness of South Park. I certainly didn’t expect the answer to this one:

The four most over-rated things in life are champagne, lobster, anal sex and picnics.

I really dislike Hitchens, he strikes me as a bombastic a-hole who is far too in love with himself. That’s not to say I disagree with him in many views, but I think he makes a downright awful ambassador for atheists.

  28. avatar Chal Says:

19/25 by marking everything I remembered from South Park and guessing that the rest was from Hitchens.

  29. avatar Rowanth Says:

23 of 25! Although I must admit I have seen every episode of South Park far, far too many times.

  30. avatar Nick Says:

20 of 25 … South Park has its moments, but I think Hitchen’s comments tend to be more droll.

  31. avatar Lauren Cocilova Says:

    18/25. That’s totally passing!

  32. avatar SarahH Says:

19/25, which drives me crazy because I’ve seen every single episode of South Park ever. I guess it also shows how similar the CH and SP can be, because I did a lot of second-guessing. Incidentally, my favorite South Park episode title ever belong to the two-parter, “Do the Handicapped Go to Hell?” and “…Probably.”

  33. avatar Santiago Says:

21/25, oh yeah! Haha, I’ve actually watched most South Park episodes up to the 11th season, but still struggled with quite a few of them. I generally assigned the more poetic or verbose comments to Hitchens, which seems to have worked.

  34. avatar Who Said It? South Park Or Hitchens? - The Atheist Blogger Says:

[...] This is a great idea for a quiz. Both South Park and Christopher Hitchens are often highly controversial and anti-religious, so can you sort the South Park quotes from the Hitchens quotes? Some of them are obvious, whilst for others you will have had to either watch the South Park episode or listen to Hitchens on television.I managed to score 18 out of 25, can you do better?H/T to Friendly Atheist [...]

    Proud or ashamed?

  36. avatar bigjohn756 Says:

15/25 but I have never watched South Park. I can’t understand a word anyone says on that show.

  37. avatar jason Says:

Wow, what a shame there’s so many people commenting here that don’t know who Christopher Hitchens is. What kind of atheist board is this?
Love him or hate him, his brilliance is undeniable. Stay away from watching him speak (CSPAN or on Youtube) unless you’re prepared to deal with your academic inadequacies.

  38. avatar Deano Says:

It has to be said, Trey Parker and Matt Stone are brilliant! Love South Park!

  39. avatar Bluetooth Handsfree Says:

It’s amazing how long South Park has been going, and how they still manage to come up with great ideas for episodes…that still shock, and crack you up!
