A New Way to Capitalize gOd

I posted about the capitalization of God yesterday.

This comment from James stood out from the bunch and made me laugh. I never thought of it that way…:

A friend of mine… has for some time now been capitalizing not the “g” but the “o” in the word gOd to emphasize the nothingness in the center of the concept.

    Ha, thats great. I will spell gOd like that for now on.

    Sweet! It beats gawd and dog, paws down. Even if I do prefer “that which is named but seems not to exist”…which is a mite long.

    Love it! It’s like gOd of the holes (gaps).

    I don’t care for it. It’s artificially cute, like the Jesus fish with legs and “Darwin” written on it. It’s an interesting idea for a few seconds but doesn’t really mean anything.

    Go a step further and use a zero instead. gOd -> g0d. Not much of a difference in this font but in fonts with a slash in the zero it’ll really stand out.

    I like it, especially with manyhats’ variation.

    Behold, for I give you the nothingness that is… gØd

    @Nick,
    Though you could be correct; with the virulent potential of Internet memes, I’d not be so hasty with the assumption you made. The meaning was given in Hemant’s blockquote above, BTW.

    Using g0d instead of God (when speaking of a specific god called such) will only offend people and convince no one of the concept. I would prefer, whenever we speak of the god(s) of the bible, to be specific. There are MANY different gods in the original translations, and it would be worthwhile for us to find them out and use the proper names.

    This way, we will not be needlessly offensive and can point out a huge inconsistency with the monotheistic concept of the “Abrahamic” religions.

    manyhats: “Go a step further and use a zero instead. gOd -> g0d.”

    That’s so l33t. :p

    Maybe I should try that too. And I agree with some of the commenters, g0d with a zero is better.

    The true math:

    sqrt (g0d x g0ds / g00ds )

    = Harmful, Useless, Imaginary Number

  14. avatar Jeff Says:

    I’ve used gØd myself a few times around the web.

    It is also the case that sqrt( YHWH + Allah – (father+son+holy ghoste)) is an imaginary number.

    Do you speak Danish? If not, I recommend you translate that word using a Danish-to-English translator like Google’s.
    N-joy.

    Translation: Danish » English

    HA!

  17. avatar «bønez_brigade» Says:

    @Jeff,
    As the potential t-shirt goes,
    gØd = sqrt(-1)

    I think I’ll pass on this suggestion. God, with a capital G, works very nicely for me and doesn’t in any way imply that I think that being exists.

    Nice little discussion here. I have posted my friend’s rationale behind his unorthodox capitalization here if anyone is interested:

    eugh….
    How about using well reasoned arguments to convince believers to doubt, instead of trivial orthographic gimmicks.

    Seriously, writing “gOd” looks stupid, and makes atheism looks stupid. Please stop making us sound, sensible atheists look stupid.
