Poll on Obama’s Church

Christianity Today has this poll up on its website regarding President Obama and the fact that he has not yet chosen a DC church to attend:

poll

I’d like to crash it, but all the choices make my head hurt…

What fifth option do they need?

    5) Give Obama a pass. It is his job as President to protect the country, and that includes all the churches in the country! He needs to concentrate on this important task.

  2. avatar Laurie Says:

I’m with William. I know working the kind of weeks he must work, he must be exhausted. Even if I were still a strong Christian, I would wonder how much worshiping he could do with all the political noise in the background of the church.

If anything, I think it is good that the President does not identify with just one church.

  3. avatar Buffy Says:

I’m also with William. He’s been president for just over a month. Can’t anybody realize that shopping for a church might not be one of his biggest priorities? You can worship anywhere (and he could have an entire chapel built in the WH if he wanted), so finding a specific church isn’t critical.

  4. avatar PrimeNumbers Says:

No, he should keep state and church separate.

No, he’s too busy and should pay (out of his own money) someone to go for him.

No, The church should come to him – one a week, from every religion, belief system, ethical system or philosophical position on the planet.

  5. avatar Diego Says:

    5. The country is so messed up that it would be irresponsible for the president to be wasting his time in a church.

That’s the 5th option that they forgot to put.

  6. avatar Anna N. Says:

I was looking for “No, it doesn’t concern me”.

  7. avatar stephen Says:

No. And it should be nobody’s concern anyway.

  8. avatar Dave Says:

    5. Yes, because his unchurch-memberness will rain fire and brimstone upon the entire world and only those who are a member of my (completely exclusive and insane) church will survive.

p.s. We’ll live happily ever after.
    p.p.s. HA! HA!
    p.p.p.s. BURN IN HELL!

It was the most appropriate option I could think of when I saw Christianity Today.

  9. avatar Bill Says:

    5. Since Christianity is a ridiculous delusion it’s a good thing Obama has more important things to do with his time.

  10. avatar Epistaxis Says:

No, it’s none of my business.

  11. avatar Tom Says:

    5) Since presidents Reagan, Bush, and Bush didn’t attend a church while they were in office (unlike presidents Carter or Clinton), Mr. Obama can certainly take his time choosing a church if he wants to.

  12. avatar «bønez_brigade» Says:

That poll has “presuppositionalist” written all over it, if you know what I mean.

  13. avatar Richard Wade Says:

The glaring absence of a fifth option like “No, it doesn’t concern me, that is his business.” is such an obvious omission that…

… Wait a second. I just realized why it’s not there. Hemant said it:

I’d like to crash it, but all the choices make my head hurt…

He and so many of the rest of us evil atheists have crashed their silly polls before, even to the point that they took them off line. So they wanted to make this one “atheist proof.” That poll has been sprayed with logic repellent like Cutter’s insect repellent. Curses!

    Unfortunately, Richard is right *sigh*.

  15. avatar teammarty Says:

“I am pleased President Obama is not a member of a church yet.”

    That is my 5th option

  16. avatar Felicia Gilljam Says:

“No. Furthermore, it is my opinion that Carthage must be destroyed.”

  17. avatar vjack Says:

What a terribly incomplete poll! He shouldn’t be wasting time on church at all.

  18. avatar Jeff Says:

From, the Christian point of view,
    5) No, other reasons

From the Atheist point of view,
    5) No, other reasons

  19. avatar writerdd Says:

    5) No. The president should not waste time going to church. If he does have any free time, he should spend it with his family.

  20. avatar Paul Says:

I think no church in their right mind would want that kind of disruption to their weekly services – all the security and secret service men walking around while the sermon is going on.

Wait, did I just use the words ‘church’ and ‘right mind’ in the same sentence? Silly me.

  21. avatar Green Ninja Says:

5a) No, zombies typically haven’t made good presidents.

5b) No, as long as he is participating in some sort of regularly scheduled blood sacrifice.

  22. avatar Darwin's Dagger Says:

    The paraphrased Jeffersonian response:

No, it does me no injury for my president to say there are twenty gods, or no god. It neither picks my pocket nor breaks my leg.

  23. avatar Nicole Says:

#5 No. The pressing concern here is that the President has not yet chosen an official psychic. Priorities people!

  24. avatar Jen Says:

#5. I am more concerned about the economy/ war/ civil rights/ science funding/ college for all to pay attention, and I hope Obama is too.

    OR

#6 I saw today on a grocery tabloid that Obama has GAY SCANDAL and I would rather read about that than church.

  25. avatar Indigo Says:

    5. Who gives a f*ck?

  26. avatar joanna Says:

Richard Wade…you crack me up. Thanks.
    “Sprayed with logic repellent”…funny stuff.

I would add this as #5:

O No, it’s a private matter and the President’s religious faith or lack thereof do not concern me in the least. (Freethinkers make the best presidents EVER.)

  27. avatar Jack McGuire Says:

Don’t you guys get it? He prays three times a day in the Oval Office on his prayer rug. He kneels towards Mecca and prays to Allah.

  28. avatar Bill Howard Says:

You know, all during the campaign he made a lot of noise about how much he was a Christain. Now that he got the prize he thumbs his nose at us and says, “Screw you all.” The way he is ruining our economy I am glad that God will have time to save us from his mismanagement and am glad he is not taking up any of God’s time.
