Because of Chief Justice John Roberts‘ flubbing of the oath of office on Inauguration Day, Barack Obama retook the oath on Wednesday night.
Not that either oath makes a huge difference — he’s President whether he says the words or not.
But it should be noted that the revised Oath was said without a Bible:
Roberts put on his black robe.
“Are you ready to take the oath?” he said.
“Yes, I am,” Obama said. “And we’re going to do it very slowly.”
Roberts then led Obama through the oath without any missteps.
The president said he did not have his Bible with him, but that the oath was binding anyway.
So Obama included “non-believers” in his Inauguration Speech. And he took the Oath without the Bible.
His atheist side is *totally* coming out
(Thanks to everyone for the link!)

Checkout the drudge report. His headline is the fact that Obama did the oath again without the bible. With any luck, we’ll have some nutcases say that it’s proof that he’s secretly a Muslim or even worse an atheist Muslim.
Bitchin’
Hahahahhhahaa AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!
Totally cool — I’ll watch it later, but at first glance, he took it without any book whatsoever.
— Hey – Do we know if he ad-libed those famous 4 words?
So… first they were nuts about how it was flubbed and now they’re going to be shrieking about how it was taken without a bible.
This is going to be a long 4-8 years.
Question: what (or whom) do atheist Muslims kill for?
That’s easy – their false God, Charles Al-Darwin, peace be upon him.
BTW–in case anyone wonders, I didn’t intend the above comment to be bigoted or ignorant. It’s more having fun at the expense of ignorance.
Hell ya!
I know that Coolidge was also sworn in twice for his first term; are there any other such presidents?
So, does this mean we didn’t have a President for a day and a half or does it mean we still don’t have a legit President? Me? I’m gonna pretend all’s cool and that Obama’s firmly in charge.
mikespeir: No, technically he was made president by the clock striking noon, not by the oath. However, as Article II states:
So, basically he was president, but wasn’t technically allowed to execute the duties of the office. And I say technically since it would involve the Supreme Court ruling against him on it, which is unlikely since the U.S. no longer follows the spirit, let alone the letter, of the Constitution.
Interesting, Miko.
I notice the linked article and video are silent on whether he added “so help me god” at the end in the reswear. Hmmm…
for the sake of completeness, since Miko stated the rule but quoted the other part, I’ll quote the 20th Amendment:
“The terms of the President and Vice-President shall end at noon on the 20th day of January . . . and the terms of their successors shall then begin.”
first of all Islam means peace, it’s not a religion about killing. second of all the basic principle of Islam is belief in a creator/God so an Atheist muslim is an oxymoron.

Not necessarily. Change the term to ’secular muslim’. There are, indeed, secular Jews; there are, indeed, secular Catholics (e.g.,I believer Prof. John Dominic Crossan is). Out of a billion ‘muslims’, there are no secular muslims? I’d be surprised.
Well, Drudge is as usual bitching about nothing because the Constitution doesn’t say you need to swear on any book. You just have to raise your right hand.
Also, Islam means submission, not peace.
