American Atheists‘ national convention is taking place April 9-12 in Atlanta, GA.
If you haven’t registered yet, you should do so soon!
Speakers include Richard Dawkins and (estranged son of Pastor Fred Phelps) Nate Phelps.
If you go, you’ll also get to attend and take part in a Mass De-baptism Ceremony! I know from experience how entertaining those can be ![]()

why did they schedule this event the same weekend as CFI’s World Congress on Science, Public policy? Now I have to choose. Damn it.
I seriously doubt I’ll be able to go this year, but I’ve added it to my list of things to do before I die.
American Atheists and Atheist Alliance schedule their big meetings at the same time each year because that’s when they have the least competition for hotel and convention-center space, thus giving them good rates. And that may be why the Center for Inquiry also chooses this time.
Margaret Downey shifted AAI’s date a few years ago.
I’m in DC (about 45 minutes from the CFI event) but I’ll be going to the American Atheists conference in Georgia. I’ll be bringing along a few members of my student group assuming our finance request is approved. There’s also a number of Beltway Atheists members making the trip. Should be a blast! Hotel party in my room.
Because it is Easter weekend.
