A Catholic Church Scandal That Doesn’t Involve Raping Little Boys

The headline is too enticing to ignore:

Priest ’smashes chair’ over Italian restaurant owner’s head as nuns kick him in the stomach

What the heck…?

“I came down to try to calm things down but the priest hit me with a chair and I ended up on the floor. Then the two sisters started kicking me, insulting me with unrepeatable words,” the unnamed [restaurant] owner said in a statement.

He was taken to hospital with injuries to his neck and bruising to his abdomen.

A lawyer for the clergy disputed his version of events, noting that the nuns had “a combined age of 160″.

Apparently, they were arguing over the restaurant lease — the “Disciples of Santa Teresa and the Baby Jesus” own the property and want it back.

(Thanks to Sarah for the link!)

Turns out that’s not the only holy war breaking out.

Maybe we need some atheist referees in these areas to help keep the peace…

(Thanks to Walker for the update!)

Regarding the second link: I seem to recall that the Armenian and Greek monks in Jerusalem throw down with some regularity.

Gotta watch out for those followers of the Prince of Peace. They’ll kick your ass when they get done kicking each others’ asses.

    RE: the second link

Apparently, scuffles and disputes are fairly common at the Church of the Holy Sepulchre. For instance, a Coptic monk moved his chair into the shade on a particularly sunny day which resulted in eleven people hospitalized as a result of the outrage it caused.

The so called “immovable latter” serves as a further example, being placed on a ledge sometime in the 19th century where it remains today, because of a depute over who has the right to remove it.

All and all its fairly amusing actually.

My 6 year old brother’s comment when he heard me discussing this was “was he a fat priest?”

    Lol, little kids

Thank you for this! Best laugh I’ve had in a couple of days. I’m off to dinner with a smile on my face.

Hope your own day has had a few smiles, too.

noting that the nuns had “a combined age of 160?.

Either these two nuns are pretty hardcore for age 80, or one of them is a lich.
