This *Really* Happened the Day After the Election

On November 4th, Barack Obama, the junior senator from Illinois, was elected president.

On November 5th, these were the winning numbers in the Illinois Lottery’s Evening Pick 3 game:

If I were a religious man, I’d be freaking out right about now…

Instead, I’ll just smirk at the thought that somewhere a religious man is probably freaking out right about now.

Somebody…alert Rapture Ready! They have a right to know! (And we have a right to watch them react and laugh hysterically in response).

    Sure it wasn’t 6-1-6?

Quick quiz for the ex-religious people here: Would you have freaked out? Be honest.

They already know. Responses are saner than one might expect.

Except that we now know that the so-called number of the beast was mistranslated and that the actual number was 616.

as an ex-religious person, i can safely say that i would not have freaked out. there is religious, and then there is superstitious/religious. and then, of course, there’s atheist.

Nope, and neither would most of the religious people that I knew. We would have figured that some other poor guy would freak out, though.

    Ex-religious opinion coming up:
Religion is superstition, and I prefer neither with my morning toast. Even so, it’s still a bit funny.

Except that we now know that the so-called number of the beast was mistranslated and that the actual number was 616.

If it was 616, would you have cared more?

Not me. Just pointing out that those who have been living in fear of a number have been living in fear of the wrong number. Maybe they should wonder what else they are wrong about.

Illinois’ Lottery is my new oracle!

I just wonder why my dark lord chose to communicate through this of all things?

    Hail Satan! Hail Satan!

I never heard of the 616 idea before. Interesting. I’m going to have to read up on that now.

666 is a number that still would have caused a few people to reconsider their gambling habits.

I used to have an aversion to the triple sixes even though I’m not overly superstitious. But after working at a library for several years, I got used to seeing 666 on the books about ceramics and learned to deal.

When I worked a register at a grocery store, I did have at least one person freak out when their small order came to $6.66, prompting them to run back and grab another small item. Assuming that there’s 50 state lotteries all with a daily 3-pick game, there’s plenty of chances for this silly number to come up… so we can probably associate that with all kinds of events.

As for now, I’m just going to point and laugh at anybody who does freak out about it.

I JUST saw this as true on Snopes, and then saw that you covered it. It’s pretty awesome, LOL!

And if you were from the China you would be unsurprised as 666 is considered to be a lucky number in some cultures!

From what I’ve heard, “4″ is considered unlucky in China, because it sounds similar to their word for “death.” Allegedly, you get a discount on your cell phone for each instance of the number 4 in it.

I think this is just confirming what I’ve thought for a while; numerology is pretty stupid.
