Conservatives in a Last Ditch Effort to Spread Lies About Barack Obama

How low can conservatives go with under a week before the election?

A church in Harlan, Indiana decided to post this sign for all to see:

A Maranatha Chapel Full Gospel church official said this in his defense:

“All I done was ask a question! I did not implicate anybody or anything, any party. I didn’t do anything,” said the official who wished to remain anonymous.

Yep. That was all he done.

The sign has since been taken down.

Meanwhile, Victoria Jackson — the anti-Julia Sweeney — writes this on her website:

You see, what bothers me most, besides being a Communist, and a racist (Obama writes in his book, From Dreams of My Father, “I found a solace in nursing a pervasive sense of grievance and and animosity against my (white) mother’s race.”) (Obama’s “religion” of the last 20 years is Black Liberation Theology. What is that? “It is simply Marxism dressed up in Christian rhetoric. But unlike traditional Marxism, Black Liberation Theology emphasizes race rather than class. It’s leading theorist is James Cone who says Jesus was black, African-Americans are the chosen people, and whites are the devil. Cone says, “What we need is the destruction of whiteness, which is the source of human misery in the world.” The McAlvany Intelligence Advisor), is that he is a LIAR. He pretends to be a Christian and he incriminates himself everytime he speaks about Christianity. To lie about being a believer in Christ is very dangerous. Lightning could strike him at any minute! But seriously, he doesn’t have a clue what the Bible says and yet he pretends to be a church- going Christian to win votes. That is sooooo evil.

I’m looking forward to next Wednesday morning. Hopefully, it’ll be a great day to read all the statements from the Religious Right groups telling us how the country’s doomed now that the liberals have taken over.

The multiple layers of wrongness of that sign as well as Jackson’s paranoid, fear-mongering rant are like the layers of an onion. They seem to go on forever, and the more you dig through them the more you cry.

I used to like Victoria Jackson. So let me guess, Jesus saved her from drugs and having every orifice filled 12 hours a day.

  3. avatar Polly Says:

Do you want a Muslim for president?

    Not really.

Do you want another born-again xian fundie for president?

    FUCK NO!

Please please please someone strip that church of its tax exempt status! Stop coddling these pieces of human debris with tax-favored treatment.

Do you want a Muslim for president?

HELL YES! Finally someone who actually knows what the heck is going on in the Middle East! That’d be great!

Of course, claiming that Obama is a muslim, or in fact anything but a good traditional god-fearing christian is (unfortunatly) absurd.

like the layers of an onion. They seem to go on forever, and the more you dig through them the more you cry.

I love that metaphor so much mate, because it captures the subject perfectly. People are so ridiculous sometimes you can’t help but wonder if they are kidding…and when you realize they aren’t it makes you want to cry.

Here’s an interesting question: which makes you rage faster, Victoria Jackson or Crazy Tracy? Personally I think Jackson’s actually worse if that is even possible.

Oh well, just another person for the (growing) list of people who I wish would not vote…

The religious should be fine with it.

They have prayed for Yahweh’s wisdom.

They have prayed for Yahweh’s guidance.

    They trust in Yahweh’s plan.

Whoever wins, it will be the answer to their prayers in in their god’s plan.

    No problems.

  6. avatar BZ Says:

Oh, someone somewhere said something wildly ignorant about a political candidate. That’s news.

  7. avatar Victoria R. Says:

This offends me. I’ve always loved communism.

  8. avatar The Unbrainwashed Says:

You guys actually want a Muslim as President?

I’m always appalled how liberals complain about Christianity as imposing force (rightly so), yet ignoring the even more disturbing aspects of Islam and how it’s nominally practiced.

  9. avatar Jennifurret Says:

This is why I tell people I’m from Chicago and not from Indiana. Before coming to Purdue, I didn’t realize 95% of my state was like this. Blah.

  10. avatar ATL-Apostate Says:

the quote she attributes to obama from his book, was actually something someone said *about* obama, not an actual quote.

but you guys probably already knew that.

  11. avatar Craig Says:

They’re giving away Muslims? Somehow I don’t think our president would know what to do with one.

  12. avatar TXatheist Says:

23% percent of Texans think Obama is a muslim according to MSNBC. Yeah!! I’m so proud of our stupidity. I swear they need to add a 11th commandment thou shall not gossip.

  13. avatar arkonbey Says:

Dammit! There goes my boyhood crush on Victoria Jackson!

Nobody’s ignoring anything. Islam Christianity Hinduism Asatru Wicca etc is a sham and has violent practices.

    What we’re complaining about is

    a) the idea that Obama is somehow a muslim
    b) the idea that a muslim president would be any different than a christian president.
    c) that believers feel it’s their right to vote only for someone who shares their mythology. Non-Christians can’t do that.

  15. avatar Chris Says:

I don’t have anymore problem with that than a Christian or other religious person.

I’ve never liked Obama – even at the point when people thought Hillary was going to win.

Than that religious nut job of a reverend or priest or whatever the hell you call him started talking.

Than it all made sense. Barack Obama is a religious nutjob.

    Stephen M,

Man, this is a really good way to look at it. I know so many Christians who are praying for this election. The problem is they can always scapegoat it if Obama wins: “Well, the nation wasn’t faithful enough, so now we’re going to be punished, go through a trial, etc.”. Or Obama could be the next Antichrist (how many have there been already?).

  17. avatar Dread Polack Says:

I also had no idea Victoria Jackson was an idiot. This is the first I’ve heard of it. The first thing to pop into my head after hearing that, is that I wonder what Weird Al, a personal hero of mine, and good friend of Ms. Jackson, thinks. I’m going to assume Weird Al isn’t stupid enough to agree with her.

  18. avatar The Unbrainwashed Says:

    @ stogoe:

I understand what you’re complaining about and I think it’s relevant. I also don’t know if saying Obama is a MUslim is as out of line as some people believe. For the record, I believe he’s either a devout Christian or a nontheist pretending to galvanize voters. But i digress. When he lived in Indonesia, he was registered as a Muslim student and did occassionally attend mosque with his non-religious stepfather. This does not make him a MUslim, but might provide at least a tiny bit of justification for the apprehension.

But here’s my point, I don’t have a problem with complaining about this. I was respoding directly to the posts above wishing for a MUslim president. (see noodleguy and Polly who seems at least open to that scary idea)

I love the phrase “church official.” It cracks me up.

Of course Victoria Jackson lacks sound judgment and reason. She let Toonces get behind the wheel, for crying out loud!
