Sony Promotes The God Delusion?

buzaw0nk walked into a Target store in Phoenix and saw a promotional setup for the Sony Reader — an e-book reader much like Amazon’s Kindle.

He was a bit surprised to see the book being promoted:

Sony was using The God Delusion to promote their product?

Yes, it’s a bestseller, but still… Ballsy move.

I like it!

It was a 66 page sample of the book which leads me to believe it was sent that way from Sony.

I’m sure the boycott of Sony from Christian conservatives will begin shortly.

Awesome, points for Sony in my book.

We just got one of those! And yes, The God Delusion was on it. And it is from Sony. There was a whole bunch of samples, most of them pulp fiction.

I really like the reader so far, BTW. Better than the current Kindle. To my taste, at least.

    Oh sweet! Ebooks are piratable!

Time to get my eye patch, it’s time to web surf.

Wait, what was this post about?

Oh, one of Sony’s more useless items. I do, however, appreciate the balls/ovaries of steel it took to select Dawkins’s work as a sample. Nice job Sony, you may sabotage your business potential, but at least I’m smiling.

Right, back to getting myself a new ebook.

Ballsy or smart. It could be a genius marketing move, depending on how you look at it.

It would be interesting to do a study on who reads more books in general, the ones who would support the display or the ones who would boycott Sony…

Awesome, Dawkins is getting all kinds of promo this week, The God Delusion was on Family Guy last Sunday too :)

Sony pretty much dropped their junk in the blender with that malware issue a couple years ago. Maybe they are trying to prove a modicum of sense by appealing to the sensible crowd (atheists). How that’s going to work, I wouldn’t know.

    Three cheers for Sony.

Well, one group reads many books while the other group only reads one.

I hate Sony too much to cheer them, but I do agree that this is pretty cool. I would buy the Kindle over this simpoy because it is a Sony product.

My guess would be the publisher paid Sony to be included. I know Sony could have said no, and kudos for not doing that, but I doubt someone at Sony independently thought to include this book.

Yeah, big points for Sony on that one.

Maybe they couldn’t get the digital rights for the LaHaye book series.
