Hey! That’s Our Letter A!

Reader Marina stumbled onto an “Evangelical Catholic Apologetics” website… and guess what she saw at the bottom of the page?

Hey! I thought we atheists owned the letter A.

I know this is just some guy’s personal website, but still, this reeks of rotting bananas.

To be fair, we took their Jesus fish symbol and gave it legs, so considering the house made of glass we built around ourselves, I won’t be throwing any stones on this one.

A clear case of Atheist Envy.

Take a look at the anti-atheist propaganda that picture links to.

Reeks of bananas? Yikes! My worst nightmare :)

I tried to tell you all that an empty set symbol would be a much better representation of atheism, but noooooooooo, you guys had to choose the first letter of the alphabet, a letter that is found at the start of any number of disreputable words, like “apologist” and “asshole” and, worst of all, “anteater”.

    Don’t say I didn’t warn you!

  6. avatar DisComforting Ignorance Says:

It doesn’t even make sense for Christians — at all. Well, unless you’re ignorant of The Scarlet Letter. I think it must be a ploy to bait atheists.

Maybe he’s an adulterer, and posting the scarlet letter on his website is part of his penance. Ever think of that?

The picture appears to be an intentional reference to Dawkins. Hey, it does indicate at least vague familiarity with what’s going down among atheists.

Hey hey hey, just a second there cowboy! The letter A belongs to Anarchism.

  10. avatar Sanity Says:

While we may not own the letter A, doesn’t Dawkins (or his foundation) own the rights to that particular stylized red A?

Kinda like Microsoft own the right to the blue E.

The baffling thing is that what got me to his website in the first place was his page on the “Gravity is just a theory” parody. An odd piece to find on such a site, but, then again, there are religious people out there who understand the theory of evolution and what it means. I often forget that.

  12. avatar Nance Confer Says:

    Obviously, he’s an atheist.

I’m confused about why anybody would want a big red “A” to represent something they believe in. Seriously. All I ever think of is “adultery.”

    Awwww, s’cute.

You know, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.

  15. avatar Epistaxis Says:

Didn’t someone suggest to Dawkins that he should take out a “copyleft” on it?

  16. avatar ddjango Says:

It is rather amusing that we and the CatLicks both chose “The Scarlet Letter” as our icon.

I mean, shouldn’t an “Out” campaign use a giant pink “O”?

Obviously, nothing is copywrit in stone.

I say, let ‘em have at it. If we googlebomb the image, maybe they’ll all end up on our sites anyway.
