The religious right group American Family Association’s OneNewsNow site seems to have an automatic filter that replaces the word “gay” with “homosexual.”
Because they want to use the more harsh sounding term, perhaps?
So when runner Tyson Gay won the 100 meter race at the U.S. Olympic track and field trials over the weekend, here’s what the news site wrote:

The article has since been corrected.
However, this article mentioning basketball player Rudy Gay, still needs some fixing…

I’m amused that one of their news categories is “Persecution.”
What complete idiots.
That’s really funny. Though is “homosexual” really a harsher term than “gay”? I guess it would depend on how it is being said, but one could make the argument that “homosexual” is less offensive since it’s the technical term while gay is slang.
I’m waiting for their report on the scandalous comedy series by Lewis Colored.
Rev. Bob – LMAO – Thanks, my keyboard is officially sprayed!
Mike Clawson,
“Homosexual” is a depersonalizing term because it is so clinical. It’s sort of like James Watt’s infamous statement that led to his resignation. He wasn’t trying to be especially offensive, but he was discounting people as people by classifying them in ways that immediately set up some possible stereotypes.

I’m surprised Mr. Homosexual’s father was able to pass his name onto children.
Can we look forward to more snafus, like:
“Don we now our homosexual apparel, fa-la-la, la-la-la, la-la-la!”
“This week the Retro Theater will be screening classics from the 1930’s and 40’s including The Homosexual Divorcee starring Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers, The Homosexual Caballero starring Cesar Romero, and The Homosexual Cavalier starring Gilbert Roland.”
What other words are changed in this ridiculous filter?
I feel pretty!
I feel pretty!
I feel pretty, and witty, and homosexual!
Ah, I do adore a musical.
It is so, so difficult for me to read something this completely absurd without then assuming that members of the religious right are morons. I know this isn’t true, but oh. My. God.
Do you think the replacement of “homosexual” for “gay” isn’t based on harshness, but on the fact that “gay” might be considered a curse? (As in “fuck”, not as in “you will prick your finger on a spindle and sleep until a prince kisses you”.)
I actually visit my town’s local forum that replaces the word “gay” with “happy”. (It isn’t officially related to the town.)
Ya. Happy.
According to the administrator, he claims that too many people misuse the word “gay” instead of its real meaning, which according to him, is just “happy”.
Here in Nash Tacky Ville, there’s a downtown street, Gay Street. I guess someone should let the city council and the mayor know about the change in name to Homosexual Street.
