Oh, That’s Just Scary…

Hey, Google Maps, where can I find a nearby church?

Eek, it’s like one of those maps that shows the spread of an infection. “This is America after 6 days unless we stop this epidemic” Except it’s too late.

That’s it, I’m moving to Nevada.

Well, if you make the circles large enough, they cover a lot of ground, but personally I think there are actually far too few circles on that map. We would have 25 or 30 or more just in our town alone.

Note the Mosques and Synagogues, slightly out numbered there.

There are roads around here where literally every other building is a church – and they all have mind numbing signs out front.

I think the lack of churches is more a matter of population density than religiosity or lack thereof.

Move to Ontario! Become a proud Canadian.

God keep out land. Glorious and free…

Hey, wait a minute! Why hasn’t this been removed from our anthem? I am not standing or singing the anthem anymore!

I have 4 churches on the 1 mile section of road that I live off of… it’s a little depressing.

I was shocked by the church density around Nashville–you couldn’t turn around without bumping into one.

Oh, come on, Hemant. At that scale, you’re not looking at “nearby churches” — you’re looking at vast herds of them represented by each individual circle representing a given locality. You could just have asked Google for representations of cities and towns, and you’d have gotten exactly the same map.

A better example of church population density (or whatever is the correct term here) would be created by looking at a map for a given city and seeing the individual church locations — how many there are overall, how they are grouped, and so on. That’s just not possible on the national-map scale. This national map is pretty much just reflecting general population centers and has no bearing on actual church population density; if there were only one church per town, the map would look exactly the same.

The idea of “herds” of churches replacing other types of “herds” which previously blanketed this land in much the same way is an intriguing argument to explore.

A better example of church population density (or whatever is the correct term here) would be created by looking at a map for a given city and seeing the individual church locations….

Perfectly clear explanations of an oversimplified observation have no place in the House of God, so you can take your truth and– OH! Wait! We actually like hearing the truth around here. Carry on ;)

    (Having a little fun!!)
