Update on Shalini Sehkar

A lot of people who read atheist blogs are familiar with Shalini Sehkar’s Scientia Natura blog (which then became her personal site).

Neither are in commission anymore. She’s going through some things I don’t feel any need to elaborate on, but it has required her to shut down her websites.

I don’t agree with her name-calling, but it’s always nice to read another outspoken atheist. It was especially nice to see a female doing it. It was even better that it was another Indian person doing it.

I asked her for an update on how things are going and she sent this:

So far, there hasn’t been any further news on the situation. As for me, I still miss my blog (and my favorite word - theistard). It is hard looking at Dembski, Behe and other assorted anti-reason lunatics frothing without giving them a good trashing. But as they say, as bad and depressing as this seems, life does indeed go on. :-(

Something also tells me that people who enjoyed my blog would enjoy http://www.evolvedrational.com

Thanks for your concern, and I’m glad that there are others out there who care.

She knows a lot of you have posted about how you miss reading her website and she appreciates it.

Hopefully, she’ll be back soon.

    Thanks Hemant!

    [I don’t agree with her name-calling...]

I would say that it is more of calling a spade a spade, or a theistard a theistard, but let’s not get into that. :-)

Hope everything is Ok with her. I await her return to the blogosphere!

I wish her well, but I wasn’t a fan. I prefer substance over kindergarten insults.

I read Scientia Natura for a while, but gave up on it about the time that I found this site. I appreciate learning more about atheists and their thoughts and worldviews, but SN seemed to me much more about bashing theists than uplifting atheism. It seems throughly unnecessary and somewhat Ann-Coulteresque to villainize “the other” by referring to them only by a purposely hurtful and frequently inaccurate nickname.

That said, I hope Shalini is doing okay. I don’t know anything about her situation, but I will keep her in my thoughts and hope that it improves.

Well, I found her in-your-face style refreshing because most atheists are still timid over criticism of religion. Each to his own, I guess.

Oh, and is the Evolved and Rational blog her blogging anonymously? Please let it be….I’m a huge fan!

One man’s timid is another man’s decent and rational, I suppose.

    Exactly right, Bad.
Being passive is destructive, being aggressive is destructive. But then there is the third way, being ASSERTIVE that almost nobody seems to know how to do. You can stand up for your rights without stomping all over everyone else. Atheists have more modes to choose from than just “I hope they don’t find me/please don’t hurt me” and “Fuck off/I’ll kick your ass.” It takes courage to not be bullied and it takes courage to not be a bully.

    amen to that Richard!

my best to Shalini, although I wasn’t a big fan of her style either.
