What a terrible thing to do! I can’t fathom why someone would steal from a church, even a church that takes stances one may disagree with.
I sincerely hope that the thief truly needs the money and is using it to become a better person.
Is it telling at all that the chalk vandalism of an atheist sign drew calls for condemnation from commenters while readers have so far stayed quiet about a more substantial evil perpetrated against a church?

I hope that’s not the actual church where the janitor works or someone might see the photo and know who it is!

at the least, it’s telling that these 2 reports are on an atheist website; i’d imagine a reverse response on a christian site. to be honest, tho, i wouldn’t class this as the greater of 2 evils. the church thefts (if they are true) are a presumably christian individual robbing his own community, whereas the vandalism was a hate crime, specifically carried out in order to offend a particular group that the perpetrator presumably sees as ‘opposition’. the theft is an act of self-centred disrespect, the vandalism however is both spiteful and malicious. although the graffitti was certainly on a lesser scale, i’m judging on apparent intentions.
