Chocolate Jesus Resurrected

Posted in Friendly Atheist at 6:05 pm by Hemant Mehta

Chocolate Jesus is back… it’s not the same as the original (which was eaten by mice), but this time, Jesus has chocolate-y friends:

The exhibit, at the Proposition Gallery in Manhattan, will be accompanied by a set of chocolate Catholic icons created by Cavallaro, a group that includes the Virgin Mary and saints Francis, Augustine, Michael, Jude, Anthony and Fermin.

The Catholic League isn’t protesting this time, either:

“We don’t approve of the piece at all, but it’s not something we’re going to protest,” said Kiera McCaffrey, the league’s director of communications. “This is much less an in-your-face assault on Christians, and it’s not happening during Holy Week.”

The league’s president, Bill Donohue, had called the sculpture “one of the worst assaults on Christian sensibilities ever.”

Apparently that’s only true during certain times of the year.

Catholic League head Bill Donohue called it “one of the worst assaults on Christian sensibilities ever”.

How so? He was on the cross and he was basically naked, aside for maybe a loinclothe, IF not naked.

Since it’s still chocolate (200 lbs at that), does this mean I can still eat Jesus?

How so? It looks like a pretty honest depiction to me, minus the cross at least at this point.

One of the lamest claims of attacks on Christian sensibilities ever, by one of the phoniest defenders of faith about one of the silliest art projects of the year. Though with “art” being what it’s degenerated into, just wait, something even sillier is bound to come along.

All in all, its importance is nil.

    Bill’s a butterscotch man, I’m betting.

But how does he feel about Tom Waits’ “Chocolate Jesus”?

I would so love to break off pieces of Jesus and hand him out for Halloween.
