Atheist Criminal

Atheist Criminal

47-year-old Kevin McKeither (above) has been charged with beating and raping a 77-year-old woman (umm… what?) at knife-point.

The attacker ripped her dress, and threatened he would cut her throat if she didn’t do what he told her to do. He pushed her to the ground, stood on her chest and [then] raped her before leaving.

When the woman asked him, “Don’t you have any decency?” he said these words:

You stupid woman, there is no decency. There is no God.

First of all, that sentence makes absolutely no sense.

Secondly, we can’t be sure “there is no God.” Atheists can only say they “don’t believe in God.”

Thirdly, there’s no direct tie between his non-belief in God and his criminal behavior. Though I’m sure we’ll see that connection being made by various people.

Like here. I don’t know if this is parody or serious, but the site writes:

I don’t think it’s too early to declare an atheist crime wave, and unless our city does something to get people out of the Darwin worship centers and into the churches, this cycle of violence will continue.

You know, if every criminal just said “I don’t believe in God” when committing a crime, I wouldn’t be surprised if the bulk of the attention was deflected off of the criminal and onto evil, evil atheism…

Oh come on, you just know that GING and GD are being ordered like crazy for prison libraries.

And, of course, if stopping a crime were as simple as “don’t you have any decency”…we’d be safe!

Of course, I feel terrible for this woman and am very sorry this happened to her, and I hope that the creep that did this gets locked under the jailhouse.

What’s a “Darwin worship center,” exactly?
    Biology class?

  3. avatar Logos Says:

    What a scumbag!

  4. avatar Vovic Says:

It sounds to me as if he wasn’t so much professing a non belief in god, as he was trying to break the old lady’s spirit.

    /my $.02

I demand to know where my local Darwin worship center is!!! Apparently I’m not a real atheist…I’ve never been to one. :(

parody; the site author has added comments –

For the record, I used a photo of the Robot Devil, because if you’re going to believe in the devil, why not a robotic one? Maybe a robot God, too. That’d be much cooler.

  7. avatar Shalini Says:

This is sad. I’m an evangelical, militant atheist but I’ve never been to a ‘Darwin worship center’.

    My bad.

Darwin worship centers are all around us, cleverly disguised as public libraries, natural history and science museums, colleges and universities. Beware!

true, but I’ve heard many people who claim to be atheists saying “there is no god” many times (not so much on there though).

Thirdly, there’s no direct tie between his non-belief in God and his criminal behavior. Though I’m sure we’ll see that connection being made by various people.

true-but often when a religous person committs a crime I do hear their religion being blamed for it on some of these blogs, so don’t be surprised if people start doing the same thing if criminals start professing no belief in God. the knife cuts both ways.

People do the evil they do not because of their religion; their religion or atheism becomes a pretext for their action. Only an evil person will use atheism as a rationale to do evil. Religion is bad only when it is a reservoir for bad actors; the same is true of atheism, or any world view.

Is it just me, or is it strange that it took about eight weeks to come out with that slant from the story. The previous two stories that were available from the news source had not a mention of what was said. And it ’s also peculiar that in the story using the “There is no God” line as a ‘fact’ with no qualifiers, this statement occurs: “There were threats made as the assailant left the house. He said to her things to the effect, ‘don’t call anybody, next time it will be worse.’ Or words to that effect.” (emphasis mine). Something tells me that someone is inflaming the sad situation. Can anyone say “Bias?”.

For me, “there are no gods” is convenient short hand that’s close enough for normal use. Like Newtonian physics.

  14. avatar Stephen Says:

What the guy says is totally random and completely moronic…like that FSTDT post about the “atheist family”.

The aforementioned post. Case in point:

“RANDOM ATHIEST: Damn you, Christian! We hate you! We claim to be tolerant of all religions. But we really hate your’s! That’s because we athiests are hypocritical like that! Die, Christian!”

Sounds like the nutcase from this news article.

  15. avatar Tim Says:

This is probably just me being paranoid, but…..I occasionally wonder if there aren’t crazy people running around and committing crimes, then saying they’re atheist, just to make atheists look bad….

(No, I’m not serious, if that’s what you’re thinking. Shame on you!)

    Well said
