Your point about the moral equivalence to "Faith Night" fails for the following reason.

The San Diego Padres are a private business. Therefore they can choose who they will publically endorse in a special promotional night and who they won't. And they are completely free to allow moral considerations to govern those decisions. For example, if an atheist owned the Padres, they would have every right as a private organization to refuse special nights for religious groups, and the religious groups would have every right to criticize them for that. That's the market place of ideas.

The fact that they chose to allow a Gay Pride Night demonstrates that their moral considerations are, in my opinion, deficient. They either don't think homosexual behavior is immoral, or they value the almighty dollar more than this conviction. And voicing my disapproval is hardly a double standard, for the reasons above. I believe homosexual behavior is tantamount to cheating on your spouse, and I would have the right to criticize the Padres for sponsoring an "Adulterers Pride Night at Petco." As a private business concern, I would have hoped that they would exercise some moral discernment about this rather than give a false impression that giving the impression that homosexuality is a morally neutral issue. They should indeed be ashamed and embarrassed. And it is no double standard for fans to say so.

I will never look at the Padres the same way that I have...

Oh! Is this an ex-gay conversion too?

I'm hoping that someone sends a letter to the editor in to their paper with your quote about Faith Nights. Perfect point.

I live in San Diego. It is the one red spot in a very blue state and while I hadn't seen this before, I'm not surprised about the openness with which Mike Farmer feels he can express his bigotry.

Unfortunate, and for many of us embarrassing.

Does Farmer think every time a Padre hits a homer, all the gay men will sodomize children?

It's the real padres that are a threat to children, not the Baseball team!
