My list:
- During nearly all of my college and grad school classes, I had crossword puzzles and Sudokus taped inside my notebook. would do those instead of take notes.
- I once had a free subscription to Maxim magazine. I don’t know how that happened. But soon after, I began receiving Stuff and FHM magazine (the same company publishes them all). Then, I began receiving Christian magazines. It seemed like Christians had seen my mail and wanted to help me.
- Leaving medical school after my M1 year was the best decision I ever made.
- I *really* want to be on Survivor. I even sent in an application and a videotape once. Didn’t get called for an interview, though. Damn.
- I’m still upset that I screwed up at Sectionals during a Speech tournament my senior year of high school and didn’t make it to the State competition.
- I’m freakishly double-jointed. For example, I can clasp my hands together behind my back and bring them to the front (over my head) without letting go.
- The highlight of my academic life was in 7th grade. I got at least 100% on every single test we took in pre-Algebra that year (there were extra credit questions). I could never do that again, though… (See Crossword Puzzle comment.)
- I don’t just sing in the car. I recite lectures and stand-up comedy bits along with the tracks. I’ve been doing that for years. If I have any public speaking skills, that’s where they came from.

Number one got a chuckle from me.
Hey! I tried out for Survivor too. They had a local casting call so I went and stood in line with the rest and had some very interesting conversations before nothing happened.
The notebook has been replaced by the lap-top. People play games instead of do crosswords. In my law school there’s a professor who teaches a class on privacy law. At some point in the semester he’s showing something on the big projector in front of the class then switches it to a camera focused on someone in class who is playing solitaire on the laptop.
Regarding number 8, I always feel unnerved when I watch that film “The Truman Show”, where they have a secret camera in Jim Carrey’s car. If they put one in my car, I’d be in a padded cell within 24 hours! I talk, shout, sing, dance, gesticulate and Satan knows what else.
Producers recruit most of the Survivor contestants these days so I think if they knew “someone like you” (in the best possible way
) was interested you’d have more of a look in …
Funny about the magazines! At one point I somehow ended up on the mailing list of the Northern Kentucky Right To Life group-they are seriously hard core. No idea where it came from-I get a ridiculous amount of mail from various liberal organizations requesting donations. Then that one shows up! I put it in an envelope and mailed it back to them, and I wrote “no thanks” on the cover so they couldn’t reuse that newsletter. It took a while, but they eventually stopped sending them.
