After I posted my list of my Top 5 comedy bits for atheists, there were several comments listing other great comedians that discuss religion in their act. Here are some of my favorites:
- Jim Gaffigan
- Robin Ince
- Dane Cook
- Eddie Izzard
Thanks to Macht for the link!
Thanks to David W. for the link!
(By the way, anyone else think the “Banana Design” line (1:45 mark) is a reference to something we’ve seen before…?)
Thanks to Sara for the link!
Thanks to KC and yinyang for the links!

Pardon the criticism, but why isn’t George Carlin on the list? He is 70 on May 12th, but still alive and hilarious.
He’s on part one.
You’re forgetting the greatest atheist comedian of all: George Carlin. He is a god among men (pun intended).
For George Carlin and others see “Top 5 Comedy Bits (For an Atheist)” on the previous page from last week. Great stuff.
Eddie Izzard is a legend (and not just ‘cos he’s English like me!). If you can get a copy of Glorious, it’s basically a walk through the entire Bible. The man’s a genius.
David Cross belongs on this list. He has some great bits on religion. Here’s a link to one that I found on You Tube but I’m sure there are plenty more.
Also, I would argue against including Dane Cook. I’ve heard him do routines against atheism, which came off as pro-catholic.
Mike JC,
David Cross was featured in the first iteration of atheist comics. Does making fun of religion make someone an atheist though? Granted, when you don’t believe in the rituals of a religion, and you see odd rituals pointed out, it’s hilarious, but someone can criticize Christianity, or any religion, and still be a member of another faith, or still have a faith in a god.
There’s a Billy Connolly clip that I can’t find anywhere (apart from on a DVD in my living room) about a rabid priest who visited his school.
Anyone who can hear Billy saying “AND YOUS’LL BURN IN THE FIRES OF HEEEELLLLLLLL!!!!” has seen it.
