There’s a character in my town who does a similar routine on a busy street corner, but his graphics aren’t nearly as nice. Can a guy like that have friends? Do they get together with other Doomsday Diplomats in the evening over a beer or more likely a pepsi and talk about their fun day of shouting at sinners and being laughed at? I saw cartoons of “The End is Nigh” guys when I was a little kid. They wore ragged monk’s robes and sandwich boards. Seems like they’ve always been here. They live out their lives and the glorious end never comes, just their own.
Sad really. What can anybody do for them? It’s hands off obsessive religiosity unless they commit a crime. Psychology has not been very helpful over the years. Therapists used to ignore or pathologize all religious traits, now they try to help people deal with specific spiritual experiences or crises in a non-pathological light or refer them to pastoral counseling, but for a guy like this, there is no help. Then again maybe I shouldn’t assume he’s not happy doing his thing. I’m just glad he doesn’t live next door.

Now these are the religous people I mean when I talk about religion being a source of misery. It’s people like this man who are frightening to a little child, not to mention disturbing to adults, and they ruin a very nice day for people. He’s also insulting to people by calling htem demonic and alike. He is the religious that people run from when he starts in with his crap. All it does is cause a form of misery for everyone. He is the sort that causes more harm than good and it’s really sad when you get down to it, because he is so delusional that he can not see what he is doing to people.

Yeah, I know. I really do need to get that book written and published.
