I think this was a wonderful idea, personally. It is refreshing to see someone inside the fishbowl of Christianity actually making a conscious effort to get the honest opinions of “outsiders”. A skeptical person might say he did so just to improve church marketing and thus bring more into the fold. But I think it shows a willingness to learn from someone whose worldview is completely different. I am curious to find out what Henderson learned from Casper. Guess I’ll get the book. Thanks!
Knowing Jim from the Ebay Atheist discussion, I understand his mission as having more to do with the changing of the soul of Christianity than with the souls of individual atheists.
I like Jim’s idea of Christianity. It’s a mature look at faith, fellowship and our duties to each other.
The meaning of Christianity to Jim seems a lot deeper than getting people to sign up with a list of theological beliefs. Where many christian salespeople talk about the transformative power of faith, Jim instead is a man who lives a transformed life. It’s a much more powerful testimony than anything the salesmen can muster.
It’s good of you to promote Jim’s book alongside your own Hemant. I think the combined effect of these books coming out around the same time will create positive buzz for you both.
Mike C. – I agree – very generous of Hemant and I do think the same thing-Both books create buzz for each other. In fact I’m already reccomending ISMSOE to pastors who want an honest look at what I call New Atheism or the Atheist Revival (apologies to my Atheist colleagues if that word sounds out of place – it’s a playful way to get Cs attention) Hemant articulates his perspective of Atheism warmly and insightfully. I anticipate that he will recieve a number or invitations to do the dialogical preaching thing he did with Pastor Tim

Just saying thanks for the plug. And also a larger thanks, for if it weren’t for Hemant, the “Jim and Casper” book wouldn’t have happened. As I am Casper, I am rather thankful that it did happen.

I heard about that book on the radio last week and I plan to buy it tomorrow when I go to the bookstore. As a Christian I am excited to finally see another Christian who is not afraid to open his mind to the viewpoint of a non-Christian regarding the church.
It’s my hope that more Christians would understand that not all atheists are anti-religion, just anti the bad stuff religious people do, and that we can all get along if we just maintain a healthy and friendly dialogue.
