Godless Who’s Who

Beliefnet.com recently put out a list called “Who’s Who Among the Godless,” talking about those atheists who are “leading the charge” on atheist issues.  There are some notables missing (Dawkins?), but perhaps this list is just limited to Americans.  In which case I think arguments could be made for some people who should be in this List of Ten but are not.  Still, they did a good job of getting a wide range of atheists.

I am curious how many people outside atheist circles have heard of some of the less well-known people…

Who do you think should be added to this list (with or without the 10-person limit)?

The full list is here.

What about Robert Price? What about the Rational Response Squad? What about Ricard Carrier? Man, there are so many people that are more influential than an actress or whoever on that list.

I’m partial to Jonathan Miller, after watching his series on disbelief on BBC earlier this year. And Colin McGinn or Salman Rushdie.

No, far from it. But I do have good role models there. :)

Richard Carrier, JJ Lowder, Dan Barker, Richard Dawkins–I think all of these have a better claim to being in the top ten than some of the people listed. Brian Flemming, Reginald Finley, Julia Sweeny, they just haven’t been in the game as long.

Yeah I agree, the list should have been a top 50 with me at the bottom, if at all. I have only been doing activism for 10 years and my show for almost 8. One of the editors contacted me a few years ago. This is actually a recently updated list. Penn & Teller should have been on the list as well.

Originally, I was told I was added because no matter where they searched for atheism, my name just kept popping up. :)

It’s flattering to be added.. but indeed.. I can think of far better candidates.
